Cost Per Cup Calculator
Work out the true cost of a cup of coffee at home, including beans, milk and syrup, then compare it to your usual café order to see yearly savings.
How to use it
Enter what you pay for beans, how much you use per cup, and your usual café price. The calculator shows your true cost per home cup, the difference against the café, and how much you save over a year at your drinking pace.
Your home cup costs
$0.96
vs $5.50 at the café — $4.54 cheaper per cup
Yearly: $700 at home vs $4,015 out. You save about $3,315 a year.
Want to lower the per-cup number further? Buying 1 kg bags, making your own syrups, and switching to a reusable filter are the three easiest wins. If you are choosing a machine, our setup budget planner shows what each tier costs.
Frequently asked questions
How much coffee is in one cup?
For drip or pour-over we assume 15 g of beans per 240 ml cup; a double espresso uses about 18 g. You can override the grams per cup in the calculator.
Does this include the cost of the machine?
Not by default. Add an optional equipment cost and how many years you expect it to last, and we spread it across your yearly cups.
What about milk and syrup?
Add a per-cup extras cost. A splash of milk is around $0.15–0.30; a pump of homemade syrup is a few cents. Our syrup recipes are in the Drinks section.
Why is my café coffee so expensive?
You are paying for rent, labour, milk, cups and a margin. Making the same drink at home is usually 4–8x cheaper per cup even with good beans.
